Take Care of Your Feet This Summer
Summer’s almost in full swing, and we’re sure you’re ready to go back outside for some summer fun! Barbeques, travel plans, trips to the beach, and pool parties with your loved ones can form great memories, but they may also lead to wear and tear for your feet if you're not careful. To help you prepare and avoid this, we're reviewing some of our top tips and tricks for maintaining healthy feet all summer!
Say No To Sweat
We have thousands of sweat glands on the bottom of our feet, so keeping them as clean and dry as possible is important. Try wearing socks that help absorb sweat. Opt for a moisture-wicking brand or 100% cotton socks. You can bring a few pairs with you on the go; that way, you can change out of sweaty socks and into a clean, dry pair as needed.
Use Sunscreen Everyday
Apply sunscreen! Typically, everyone remembers to apply sunscreen to their bodies, but we often forget about our feet. Unfortunately, our feet are just as susceptible to sunburns and damage from UV rays. The tops and fronts of the ankles tend to be especially vulnerable. Don’t forget to reapply after you’ve been in the water!
Keep Hydrated
Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day. This helps not only with overall health but will also minimize any foot swelling caused by the heat.
Avoid Fungal Infections
Wear shoes around public pools, public gyms, and public showers. These are all places with a high incidence of contracting fungal infections, so you want to protect your feet.
Stretch Your Feet
Keep your blood flowing with daily ankle flexes, toe wiggles, and calf stretches! It’s important to warm up and stretch the muscles, tendons, and joints regularly before and after long days of walking or standing on your feet.
Don’t Walk Barefoot
Walking barefoot makes it super easy to get a sunburn. It can also expose your feet to plantar warts and athlete's foot, increasing the risk of foot and ankle injuries!
