We treat a lot of heel pain or plantar fasciitis in our office. Many of the symptoms include pain when you first get up in the morning, burning, numbness and increased symptoms by the end of the day. The pain is usually caused by tightening of the plantar fascia ligament located on the bottom of the foot. The plantar fascia ligament supports the arch. When you’re resting the ligament contracts. As you start to walk, the ligament pulls and may tear slightly causing pain. Heel pain can also be brought on by trauma, overexertion, ill-fitting shoes, or poor foot alignment. We initially treat planta fasciitis conservatively with stretching, anti-inflammatory medications, night splints, and possibly an injection. Proper foot support is one of the most important treatments we recommend. The purpose of foot support is to stop the ligament from tearing, thereby getting to the cause of the problem. We often prescribe custom orthotics for the best possible foot support. Custom orthotics are inserts that fit into your shoes, which are molded specifically to your feet to correct the faulty foot alignment and bring your feet into a more correct position. We find that most of our patients respond to conservative treatment with favorable outcomes. For those patients that require additional treatment we may utilize other treatment modalities such as shockwave treatment, and surgery. So if you’re suffering with heel pain don’t wait for it to become a chronic problem. Schedule an appointment today and we’ll get you back to your normal activities in no time.
Diabetes has become an epidemic in this country. If you have diabetes it is essential that you have your feet evaluated by a podiatrist. Diabetics are prone to poor circulation, have a weakened immune system and impaired nerve function in their feet. Due to poor circulation, diabetic feet are more susceptible to developing sores and nonhealing wounds which may lead to ulcers. These wounds can also develop into serious infections, which can lead to amputations, loss of limbs, and even loss of life. It is very common for patients with diabetes to develop peripheral neuropathy. Symptoms of peripheral neuropathy can be pain, numbness, tingling, and burning sensation in your feet. I recommend that you come in for a comprehensive diabetic foot evaluation. I will use the latest technology to test and assess the circulation to your feet and determine if you have peripheral neuropathy. Once the evaluation is complete, I will design a treatment plan specifically for you. At Advanced Feet and Ankle Care we offer the latest treatment modalities for peripheral neuropathy. If you’re a diabetic come in for a comprehensive evaluation immediately so that we can provide you with the care you’ll need and to minimize possible complications.
Many of my patients present with foot or ankle injuries. These injuries could be the result of simply tripping on the stairs, stepping on a foreign object while barefoot, or from playing their favorite sports activity. At our practice, we treat a wide variety of foot and ankle injuries including fractures, sprains of the foot and ankle, or tendon problems which can be very painful and disabling. If you’ve injured your foot or ankle be sure to see a podiatrist for treatment and in the meantime, remember RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. As a podiatrist, I’m specially trained to treat foot and ankle injuries with the latest treatment modalities and best outcomes. We can often see you immediately, on the same day of your injury. So give us a call if you’re seeking treatment for your condition and we’ll take good care of you.
Are you tired of living with that painful bunion? Are you having difficulty wearing your favorite shoes? Bunions are due primarily to generic factors but can become painful over time due to trauma, ill-fitting shoes, and poor foot structure. What happens is that the bone connected to the big toe starts to drift outward, pushing the big toe sideways into the other toes, which can also lead to painful hammertoes, corns and calluses. Left untreated bunions can become painful and progressively worse. Although wider shoes, padding and custom orthotics may slow down this progression, surgery is the only way to correct the bunion deformity. Bunion surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis, which means patients get to go home on the same day of the surgery. Many of our patients start walking on the operative foot within a few days and can return to work within a short period of time. It is our objective to get you back on your feet as soon as possible. Schedule an evaluation today to determine the best course of treatment.
Many of my patient fear coming in for treatment of an infected ingrown toenail. They come in with excruciating pain and I get to send them home feeling a whole lot better. An ingrown toenail occurs when a corner of the nail grows into the flesh of the toe, causing redness and swelling, followed by pain and often infection. Ingrown toenails can occur due to improper trimming of the toenail, trauma, or genetic factors. Treatment for ingrown toenails is performed by gently numbing the toe and then removing the offending corner of the nail. If you have chronic ingrown toenails we can apply a chemical to the nail root to help prevent the regrowth of the ingrown portion of the nail. Patients are typically back into a shoe and can resume their normal activities almost immediately. If you have an ingrown toenail, don’t be afraid to come in. Your treatment will be gentle and virtually painless and we’ll get you back to your normal activities right away.
